Porcelain
h: 180 w: 122 d: 25 (cms).
A Moment of Harmony series This series of porcelain wall installation is a hand-build porcelain wall sculpture. This installation evokes a moment of harmony where butterflies are gliding around the plants and nature is in perfect harmony. I decided to explore the potential of Porcelain to create a form of sculpture - an imaginary plant that seek to express the overwhelming energy and power of nature to prevail in the world, despite the odds. The hard sharp spikes in the work point towards this strength and resilience. For me porcelain is the perfect material to represent the idea of fragility, strength, vitality and the power of transformation of people and nature itself. In butterfly in flight installation in the garden and on walls I wanted to capture life force, the vitality yet fragility of nature and people naturally exhibit - something indeed we can learn much from, both as a species and as individual people. This artworks is wall installation work. It can be attached onto any surface area where screws and nails can be attached. It is a site specific installation therefore the composition of the installation can be changed.

Aluminium and Aluminium dibond

With continued demand for refined mineral resources, geological matter is increasingly presented as a substance that is ascribed value through its conversion into a product, particularly products associated with technology. My work is therefore an amalgamation of such key interests including the physicality of ancient geology and the dematerialised aesthetics of contemporary technology. I address the physical dimensions of this materiality, the concern of natural resource depletion as we irreversibly change the Earth's landscape. What we know about the planet of tomorrow is based on our planet of yesterday; my work considers the Earth's natural power to transform all matter through time.

“We Three Queens of Orient Are”, Three Eurasian Lynxes. The Three Queens collectively are my vision of creating a sanctuary of peace and serenity amidst the turmoil of the world. The Queens capture the enchanting beauty of the Eurasian Lynx and embody a sense of meditation and tranquility. Flanking the central Queen are two other Queens, casting a trio that symbolises Harmony, Wisdom, and Understanding, as derived from the philosophy of Pythagoras. The Queens are cast in Bronze Resin also embellished with solid Bronze Ear Tufts. The Queens are elegantly displayed on individual marble / resin square plinths, measuring 150mm x 150mm. To create a sense of serenity, when placed outdoors, they can be elevated on sleek steel, powder coated and treated tall black plinths, with the Queens arranged in a crescent shape, inviting contemplation and stillness. These outdoor plinths are available to order, at a separate cost. They are handmade in the Cotswolds. Please enquire as the price depends on the dimensions.

Petra embodies a sanctuary for peace amidst the world's chaos capturing the enchanting beauty of the Eurasian Lynx, serving as a symbol of meditation and tranquillity. Inspired by the majestic 21-year-old Eurasian Lynx named ‘Petra’ from the Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, UK, this sculpture is a homage to her grace and magnificence. Moreover, the sculpture serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative need to protect and cherish the natural world. Crafted using the Cold Wax Method and cast in Bronze Resin, this piece also adorns Solid Bronze Tufts (not appearing in this photo. Bronze on bronze-coated steel base
h: 54 w: 51 d: 47 (cms).
“The Impostor” is a capercaillie (grouse) pretending to be a peacock by sporting a tractor seat serving as a tail. The "borrowed feathers" trope recurs in numerous classical fables which teach us "that one ought not to plume oneself on the merits which belong to another, but ought rather to pass his life in his own proper guise." (Phaedrus, fable III) “The Impostor” is part of a series of bronze sculptures I continue to work on, titled “Figures of Speech”, consisting of hybrid creatures that each cross a boundary of some kind. They morph from human into (mythological) animal or machine and vice versa. Paradoxically, these subhuman hybrids lay bare often hidden characteristics that are quintessentially human. As a visual artist I am interested in the shadow side of the human psyche, i.e. those parts that stay hidden, even to oneself. My explorations are translated into both bronze sculptures and pastel drawings.

Local larch harvested near to the studio, lazer cut Corten steel patinated which absorbs light and, mirror polished stainless steel reflecting light. Hard wood plinth frame with basalt stone and fluorescent stone centre. The latter lights up in the dark.
h: 170 w: 90 d: 24 (cms).
The form is inspired by time and material, by our familial correspondence with others - once here, now gone. The sculpture title “I SEE YOU, I HEAR YOU.”, expresses the acknowledgement of another, through time. The sculpture looked at energy lines of language in Neolithic stone carving (Knowth), whilst in physical dialogue with the time held in the wood’s materiality, i.e., in its patterned grain - the actual body flesh of the larch sculpture. Ubiquitous time is imprinted within its summer and winter growth lines, waiting to be found, disclosed. Sculpting techniques applied include: carving, laser cutting, welding. It's integral plinth base is: 90 cm long x 43 cm at widest point to 6 cm at narrowest tip x 12cm deep approx.

Painted, weather steel and empty space. Panels are punctuated with tiny wording holes allowing air to flow through the spiral sculpture.
h: 86 w: 80 d: 40 (cms).
Vertebreath is a spiral, poem sculpture inspired by Sufi poetry and the Japanese tradition of Wabi-sabi. Spirals are eternal signs of the invisible organising power at work in the universe, used here to show the presence of our most precious gift; the breath. Rods are used to join the blades but also reveal secret, spiral geometries. The breath is the spine of life, the sacred essence we ignore, suspended in the primordial void it awaits your birth with a bated blow, she dances between worlds, inflating rock to bone - she is the hidden engine of life. The abstract sculpture is made from steel with a labour intensive patination process to give a unique dark, weathered finish - a collaboration between the elements, human hands & time. The piece is meticulously hand crafted from more than 240 individual components, emphasising repetition found in nature. The welding process highlights the raw beauty of imperfections. Each of the 24 blades are punctuated with tiny holes allowing air to move through the artwork as it leaps and twists to life. The holes form abbreviated words 'IN' & 'EX' staggered on each blade, symbolising the life-giving inhale-exhale exchange.

Perspex
h: 36 w: 34 d: 34 (cms).
Judas is an ancient name given to a traitor or a demon. The Judas kiss is a symbol of an act of apparent love or affection but in reality, is a betrayal. These two hands, based upon the ‘clapping hands’ emoji, evoke the language of social media but also reference praying hands. The artist chose Perspex as a transparent, contemporary material in contrast to the fake ‘classical’ plinth. It is often used in signage and retail display, most recently to provide protective screening against the Covid virus. This work was originally commissioned by Creative Folkestone for their ‘Plinth’ series and was subsequently selected for the ‘Discerning Eye’ exhibition.

Daedalus, Father of Icarus and architect of their wings. This sculpture depicts the flight, the fall, the lightness of freedom replaced by the weight of reality, his son's decision to fly too close to the sun. The twist of the head to gaze with joy then despair at the inevitable.

Endure is the evolution of Rory’s simple concept of making the sculpture breathe. Rory has pursued the limits of movement in a single stationary form, bring tension and force to the piece with each mark, playing with scale and anatomy to break sculpture down into larger tactile forms, extenuating this by the stones natural grain and flow. Manipulating light and shadow to accentuate rhythms and movement. Influenced by his time in Japan, Endure is the strength to carry on. Travelling to japan Rory witnessed the devastation nature can bring, the immensity of its power, a typhoon had just hit japan and the damage was still being felt throughout the islands. Endure is the embodiment of the determination shown by the people of Japan, how temples, houses and communities are built again and again in continued defiance of the natural world.
